These are the prayers of supplication and worship to the ancient gods. In most every culture, the divine reality manifests as a power beyond the human but personified with human qualities.These prayers are the expressions of seekers who worship these gods and goddesses in an effort to gain a closeness to their divine ideal. They illustrate the vast range of human ideals which stretch from wealth and fortune to spiritual liberation through suffering and death, and from oneness with the wild forces of nature to the quality of youthful innocence associated with newly discovered love.
The prayers contained here were heard during meditation on these deities.
